Top 10 Reasons to get a "Big" Dog...

1. "Beware of Dog" actually means something.

2. This was the size dogs were meant to be.

3. You won't have to get your kids a pony. They can ride on the dog in the back yard.

4. You don't have to get down on the floor to pet them.

5. You don't even have to bend over when they "shake" your hand.

6. Built-In Babysitter.

7. You don't have to worry about stepping on them... You worry more about them stepping on you.

8. On a walk, you'll never wind up carrying them.

9. You get to use The Furminator. (this was probably about a 1/4 of the hair that came off of her)

10. When someone comes to burgle your house, is this really going to scare them off?

Probably not. :)

Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend we went to the wedding of Stephanie, my cousin, and her new husband, Will. The wedding and the reception were beautiful, but you'll just have to take my word for it. The only pictures I wound up getting were of them cutting the cake and they turned out blurry. I think she probably appreciated more the fact that I was ready to take a screaming baby outside at a moments notice, instead of poised to take great pictures. Presley was great at the wedding and the reception, though.

Here is a picture of her and my dad at the reception having a serious discussion about his tie, I think. : )

This is the next day. Apparently she was still a little worn out after having so much fun at the wedding.

I just like this next picture, because I think it is the beginning of her future singing career. You can see that she is holding the exersaucer toy just like her microphone. And then she is eating it, of course, but squealing/singing at the same time.

Happy Memorial Day!

We had a great Memorial Day!

On a related note, my great-uncle (my mom's uncle) was recently featured in the Ft. Worth Star Telegram for his service in World War II! You should be able to get to it from this link, but I'm not sure how long that will be working.

Whoa....she's 5 months old!

It's crazy that she's five months old already. Do I say that every time? As she gets older, it gets a little bit harder to take the posed pictures. She's getting used to the camera, but now wants to hold the paper and push the paper away and eat the paper... Definitely more mobility on her end and more to come very soon, I think.

For her birthday we relaxed on a quilt in the backyard with the puppies. She loved it!

Tagged...

Well, about two months ago my blog was "tagged" and now with a speed that I usually reserve only for returning phone calls, I am finally getting around to doing it. Here are the rules for playing tag in the blogging world:

1. Link your tagger
2. Post the rules
3. Share 7 facts about yourself (random or weird)
4. Tag 7 friends

Now, since this is officially Presley's blog (and since you readers are more concerned with her than me - and rightly so) these facts will all be about her. Some of the pictures are old, but I thought I'd include them anyway.

  • Presley is fascinated with our dog, Dakota. He can make her laugh more than anything else in the world. The sad thing, though, is that the fascination is not returned. He used to be quite intrigued with this new little thing, but not so much anymore.

  • Although her parents were married on Elvis' birthday and she's named "Presley" - she wasn't named after the KING.

  • Call her an over-achiever, say she's ahead of the game, but don't buy her anything that should fit a 5 month old baby. She is blazing forward at full force and wears closer to a 12 month old size. At this rate, we'll never be able to use the "Under 12" Kids price. No one will believe us.

  • She said her first word "Okay" right around 2 months of age. I swear I have this on video, but at the moment I am unable to find it. You'll just have to go on my word that this child is brilliant and bound to do great things.

  • Similar to most college students, Presley loves to stay up late at night and sleep late in the morning. If it were up to her, she would stay awake until 10:30pm and wake up at about the same time the next morning. We would prefer her to sleep from about 8pm to 8am. Either way, once she goes down for the night she is usually out for 10 to 12 hours.

  • She loves the outdoors. Not only is that where Dakota is (see bullet #1), but she just loves being in the outdoor air.

  • She has a great giggle that she reserves for only the funniest circumstances...like when Dakota is around. This is a really short video just to hear a sample.

Class of 2030...Whoop!

This week we took Presley for her first visit to the Texas A&M campus! Since she will be attending school here in only 18 years, we thought she should go ahead and see the campus. (Derek was there for work so we tagged along.)

This is the Sul Ross statue. I thought about trying to explain who he was and why he's standing there and why there are pennies by his feet, but I think it's better left alone. Either you know or you don't. : ) I don't think one Blog post could truly explain the traditions of A&M.

And of course, the Chicken. Her first visit, but quite certainly not her last.

This is a picture of the Century Tree on campus. For those of you who know the story, this is where it all began.
I'll leave you with just a small taste of A&M tradition: According to an old Aggie legend, if two lovers pass beneath the tree's large, vine-like branches, they are destined to be wed. Similarly, if a couple becomes engaged under the Century's picturesque leaves, the marriage will last forever.

She Found Her Voice!

Presley has found her voice! She's been "talking" for a while, but I think she just realized that she can make noise and she loves it!
